Marlborough Arson Investigation

The Calgary Police Service Arson Unit is seeking public assistance to obtain information related to a series of suspicious fires in the community of Marlborough.

Just before 11 p.m., on Tuesday, March 29, 2016, police and the Calgary Fire Department were called to the 0-100 block of Marbank Way N.E., for reports of a small fire. The fire was located in a garbage can and had expanded to a fence in the alley. The fire was quickly extinguished.

At approximately 2:10 a.m., on Friday, April 1, 2016, a house fire occurred at the same address. The Calgary Fire Department attended and located the fire on the exterior of the rear of the building and were able to extinguish it. The damage in this case was estimated at $20,000.

Around 9:00 p.m., on Tuesday, April 5, 2016, a third fire occurred at the same address at the rear of the house, at the same location as the second fire. The damage in this case is estimated at $150,000.

Investigators believe all three fires are arson and that the residents are being targeted, however, a specific motive is not yet known. Members of the Arson Unit are working with the home owners on safety planning in the event of continued suspicious fires.

Police are releasing a number of images in relation to a person of interest they are looking to identify. Please note, the time stamp on the CCTV image is not accurate.

Anyone with information about these fires is asked to contact police at the non-emergency number 403-266-1234. Tips can also be left anonymously by contacting Crime Stoppers using any of the following methods:
