Man on probation charged with drug and weapon offenses

We have arrested a man and charged him with multiple offences, including the possession of several different weapons.

In the fall of 2025, police learned a man on bail was violating conditions of his release.

We launched in investigation and over the next several months, gathered evidence that the man was selling drugs in several locations, including the East Village, from a Mercedes Benz, as well as from a home in Coventry Hills.

On Monday, Jan. 12, 2026, police searched the home, garage, and car.

The search of a home in the 100 block of Covington Rise N.E. resulted in the following items being seized:

·        Five handguns, including one that was loaded

·        Ammunition

·        Imitation firearms

·        A prohibited Conductive Energy Weapon

·        A crossbow with arrows

·        An archery air gun

·        Fentanyl, worth nearly $40,000

·        More than $1,500 cash

·        Multiple cell phones

·        Drug paraphernalia

A search of the detached garage and Mercedes at the same location resulted in the following items being seized:

·        A stolen 2012 Ford F150 

·        A mobility scooter, believed to be stolen

·        A stolen license plate

·        Psilocybin, worth roughly $240

Robert CVITANOVIC, 54, of Calgary is charged with:

·        One count of possession of an unauthorized firearm

·        One count of possession of restricted firearm with ammunition

·        One count of careless storage of a firearm

·        Two counts of possession of a prohibited weapon

·        Two counts of failing to comply with probation

·        Five counts of failing to comply with release order

·        One count of driving while prohibited

·        One count of possession of proceeds of crime under $5,000

·        One count of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking

Robert CVITANOVIC is currently in custody and his next scheduled court appearance is Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2026.

“This person was disregarding the conditions of his release, while also selling a high volume of drugs downtown,” said Staff Sgt. Mike Sushelnitsky of the Calgary Police Service. “This arrest means more guns and drugs are off the street and sends a message that this behaviour will not be tolerated.”
