Man identified in McKenzie Lake shooting

The Calgary Police Service Homicide Unit is seeking public assistance in relation to a shooting that occurred Monday night in southeast Calgary.

At approximately 11:45 p.m., on Monday, Oct. 7, 2019, police were called to the 100 block of Mt Aberdeen Manor S.E. for reports of a man in medical distress laying in the street. Officers responded with members of EMS, however the man died at the scene.

Following an autopsy by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, the identity of the victim has been confirmed as Matthew David MANIAGO, 29, who is believed to have died as a result of multiple gunshot wounds.

This is the 15th homicide in Calgary in 2019, and is believed to be targeted, but not connected to the increased violence and shootings that have occurred in northeast Calgary. From January 1, 2019 to September 31, 2019 there have been 65 shootings in Calgary.

Investigators continue to collect, process and review CCTV footage and are asking anyone who may have dashcam footage of the events leading up to this incident to contact police.

Police are also looking for a vehicle that was seen leaving the scene, possibly a newer model white Honda CRV.

The investigation is ongoing and police are holding the scene where MANIAGO was found until approximately noon today. 

The family of MANIAGO is requesting privacy during this difficult time and will not be making a statement at this time.
