Man facing several charges after weekend carjacking

On Sunday, Nov. 30, 2025 at approximately 5:30 p.m., a man was dropping his granddaughter off in the southeast community of Walden, while his wife remained in the backseat of their vehicle.

Moments later, a man in a ski mask jumped into the vehicle. The woman in the back seat jumped out of the car as the man drove away, nearly hitting the grandfather in the process.

At approximately 5:45 p.m., members of the Calgary Fire Department were dispatched to attend a vehicle that had crashed into a power pole near the intersection of Shawville Road and Shawville Blvd. S.E.  It was later determined this was the same vehicle that had been stolen 15 minutes earlier in Walden.

As firefighters arrived on scene, the driver of the vehicle backed into the fire truck, ramming it several times. In response, the driver of the fire truck pinned the vehicle against the pole while members called police.

When officers arrived, the offender initially refused to comply but was eventually taken into custody.

Skylar BEAVERBONES, 23, of Calgary, is charged with:

·         One count of forcible confinement

·         One count of assault with a weapon

·         One count of dangerous operation of a vehicle

·         One count of assault against a peace officer

·         One count of failure to comply with a release order

·         One count of Disguise with intent

·         One count of obstructing a peace officer

·         Two counts of mischief

“This was an incredibly dangerous situation and we’re relieved the family wasn’t hurt,” said Staff Sgt. Chiran Cardona. “We also appreciate the assistance of the Calgary Fire Department in resolving the incident.”

BEAVERBONES next scheduled court appearance is Dec. 9.
