Man dies following Kensington shooting

An autopsy has been scheduled for today, Thursday, April 13, 2023, to formally identify the victim of a fatal shooting that occurred last night in the Kensington area.

At approximately 9:30 p.m., on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, police were called to the  400 block of 10 Street N.W., for reports of gunshots in the area. Around the same time, the driver of a black SUV approached on-duty Calgary Fire Department members in the 1000 block of Sixth Avenue S.W., seeking help for a passenger in his vehicle that had been shot. CFD members attempted life-saving measures, but the passenger was declared deceased at the scene. The driver of the vehicle fled the area prior to CPS arrival.

Officers searched the Kensington area for evidence of the shooting and to ensure no bystanders were injured during the altercation. The investigation continues today as Homicide detectives follow several leads in relation to who may have been involved in this brazen public shooting.

Details about the identity of the victim will be released upon completion of the next of kin notifications and the autopsy.
