Man dies after altercation in southeast Calgary
We are investigating after a man was brought to the hospital with fatal injuries following a disturbance in southeast Calgary early this morning.
We were called today, Monday, Sept. 2, 2024, at approximately 5 a.m., for reports that multiple individuals were involved in a disturbance outside of the Portico Lounge, located in the 1800 block of 35 Street S.E. Upon arrival, officers found evidence of an altercation and signs that someone may have been in medical distress.
Approximately twenty minutes later, police were notified that a severely injured man was brought into the Peter Lougheed Centre, located in the 3500 block of 26 Avenue N.E. Sadly, the man has since succumbed to his injuries. An autopsy has been scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2024.
While the investigation is still in its early stages, officers believe that the man was likely injured during the disturbance outside of the Portico Lounge. Officers are currently searching for evidence at the scene, speaking with witnesses and canvassing the area for CCTV footage. It is believed that multiple witnesses have not yet come forward to police.
