Man claiming to be contractor charged with fraud

We have charged a Calgary man with multiple counts of fraud and forgery in relation to construction projects that were never completed.

In March 2022, it is believed a man entered into contracts with several homeowners to build detached garages at their residences in the communities of Livingston and Saddle Ridge. It is believed the man used an alias and claimed to be the owner of a business called Custom Renos by Us.

After signing contracts and receiving nearly $30,000 from the victims upfront, allegedly to purchase materials, the man failed to perform the work. All of the victims requested refunds, and the man is believed to have presented forged documents as proof of refund before he stopped communicating with the victims.

After an investigation into the company, Emmanuel REYES MONTALVO, 41, has been charged with four counts of forgery, three counts of fraud over $5,000 and one count of fraud under $5,000. He is also known to have used the alias Miguel SANTOS.

REYES MONTALVO is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2022.

We encourage anyone who has suffered a financial loss as a result of fraud to report it to police by calling the non-emergency number at 403-266-1234.

If you have received a fraudulent text message, email or phone call but have not sustained a financial loss, please report it to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
