Man charged with voyeurism

The Calgary Police Service District 4 has charged one man following a voyeurism incident that occurred in a women’s washroom in northeast Calgary.

On Monday, Sept. 23, 2019, at approximately 1 p.m., a woman was using a public washroom inside Northgate Village Shopping Centre located at 495 36 St. N.E. While inside a washroom stall, the woman observed a man recording her on a cell phone by reaching around the stall wall. The woman immediately called building security who located the man and called police. Police arrived a short time later and took the man into custody.

Police believe that the man had taken photos and videos of multiple women without their consent as they used the washroom at the same shopping centre. This is alleged to have occurred between 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 23, 2019, however it is believed that additional occurrences may have occurred within the weeks and months preceding.

Investigators would like to speak with anyone who may have seen suspicious behaviour or used the women’s washroom during those times at the Northgate Village Shopping Centre.

The investigation remains ongoing, however at this time, Alex TRAN, 18, of Calgary, has been charged with one count of voyeurism. TRAN will next appear in court on Friday, Oct. 25, 2019.

Anyone with information about these offences is asked to contact police by calling 403-266-1234 or Crime Stoppers anonymously through any of the following methods:
