Man charged with trafficking $300,000 worth of methamphetamine
We have charged a man with drug trafficking after $300,000 worth of methamphetamine was seized in Calgary, interrupting the drugs from reaching an international destination.
On Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at approximately 10:10 a.m., a man arrived at the Calgary International Airport, located at 2000 Airport Rd. N.E., and was believed to be boarding a flight destined for Korea, with a layover in Vancouver, B.C.
As part of the check-in process, the man checked luggage.
During the security screening process, the man’s luggage was flagged for suspicious contents by officers from the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority.
The Canadian Border Services Agency and the Calgary Police Service were immediately contacted as it is believed the luggage contained approximately 20 kilograms of methamphetamine.
The man departed on his scheduled flight to Vancouver, B.C., without his seized luggage, and was subsequently arrested by members of the RCMP upon arrival at the Vancouver International Airport.
The man was released due to cross-jurisdictional investigative restrictions. Our investigators continued to gather evidence, including working with the Public Prosecutions Service of Canada to obtain Canada-wide warrants for the man’s arrest.
On Thursday, Oct. 3, 2024, the man was located and arrested by members of the Toronto Police Service in Toronto, ON, and on Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2024, he was transported to Calgary.
As a result, Anthony TANG, 25, of Toronto, ON, has been charged with trafficking methamphetamine, possession for the purpose of trafficking methamphetamine and exporting methamphetamine.
He will next appear in court on Friday, Oct. 11, 2024.
