Man charged with sexual assault after meeting woman on dating app

We have charged a man with sexual assault after it is believed he met a woman on a dating app and subsequently sexually assaulted her while the two were at his residence.

In November 2024, the victim began communicating with a man she met on a dating app and later made arrangements to meet him in-person.

On Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2024, the victim met the man at a restaurant downtown and later accompanied him to his residence.

Once inside, the man began sexually assaulting the victim.

The victim reported the incident to police earlier this year, and as a result of our investigation, we have charged Nathaniel Mark THOMSON, 30, of Calgary, with one count of sexual assault.

He will next appear in court on Friday, Sept. 5, 2025.

In Canada, there is no time limit on reporting a sexual assault. Anyone who believes they are a victim of sexual assault is encouraged to report it, even if many years have passed since the incident.
