Man charged with flight from police
We have charged a man with several offences following a dangerous driving incident yesterday where a motorcyclist fled a traffic stop.
At about 11:10 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 14, 2025, one of our patrol officers observed a motorcycle without a licence plate travelling west on 17th Avenue S.E. near 31st Street S.E. When the officer attempted a traffic stop, the motorcyclist drove onto a sidewalk and a pedestrian pathway leading into a park.
After driving through the park, the motorcyclist returned to the road and drove north through the city, reaching high rates of speed and disobeying multiple traffic lights and signals. Additional attempts to stop the vehicle were unsuccessful.
The motorcycle continued north out of the city, reaching speeds of up to 200 km/h, and eventually stopped on Range Road 23 north of Highway 772, at which point the motorcyclist fled on foot. With assistance from the Alberta RCMP, we apprehended the suspect and took him into custody around noon.
Joshua Daniel POIRIER, 33, has been charged with:
- flight from a police officer
- dangerous operation
- driving while disqualified or prohibited
- two counts of failure to comply with a release order
- three counts of failure to comply with a probation order
He is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, Aug. 18, 2025.
