Man charged with break and enter with intent following incident in Renfrew

We have now identified, arrested and charged a man in relation to a break and enter with intent that occurred last month in the northeast community of Renfrew.

On Friday, July 7, 2023, at approximately 5:05 a.m., we were called to a residence located in the 700 block of Fourth Street N.E., for reports of an unknown man who had unlawfully entered a residence.

It is believed the victim, who was alone in her residence at the time, awoke to find the suspect in her bedroom.

The suspect is believed to have broken into the residence, entered the victim’s bedroom and removed some of his clothing before sitting on her bed.

The victim was woken up and startled by the suspect. She began to chase him out of her residence and immediately contacted police.

The suspect subsequently fled the scene on foot.

Following an extensive investigation, police arrested the suspect on Monday, Aug. 7, 2023, without incident.

As a result, we have now charged 34-year-old Brent BEAR SHIRT, with one count of break and enter with intent.

BEAR SHIRT will next appear in court today, Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2023.
