Man charged with attempted murder in weekend assault

The Calgary Police Service has charged a man with attempted murder after a serious assault took place on Canada Day.

At approximately 5:40 p.m., on Saturday, July 1, 2017, police were called to the 800 block of McNeill Road N.E., for reports that an assault had occurred and a man was seriously injured. Upon arrival a man in his 30s was found in life-threatening condition. He was transported to hospital where he remains in serious, but stable, condition.

Police located a suspect at 6:15 p.m., in the area of Manning Road and Manning Close N.E. He was arrested without further incident.

The victim and the accused are related to one another. The motive for the attack is still under investigation.

Ian Lawrence SADDLEBACK, 35, is charged with attempted murder and breach of probation. He will next appear in court Tuesday, July 4, 2017.
