Man charged with attempted murder

The Calgary Police Service General Investigations Unit has charged one man with attempted murder following a stabbing that occurred earlier this week.

On Monday, July 2, 2018, at approximately 5:15 a.m., a woman called police to report an unknown man attempting to gain access to her residence, located in the 1300 block of Falconridge Drive N.E.. A few minutes later, the man forced his way through the front door and the woman and her mother fled the residence. The suspect entered the house and located a 63-year-old man who had been sleeping, and began assaulting him.

District 5 patrol officers arrived on scene and immediately entered the residence, where they took the offender into custody without incident. Officers located the victim and began performing first aid until EMS arrived and transported the man to hospital in life-threatening condition. The victim’s condition has since been upgraded to stable.

The offender and victims are not known to each other and police believe that this was a random attack. The motive is unknown at this time and police are not looking for any other suspects.

Emmanuel Sundae IYOHO, 37, of Calgary, has been charged with one count each of attempted murder, break and enter and assault with a weapon. IYOHO will next appear in court today, Wednesday, July 4, 2018.
