Man charged with attempted murder following assault in Montgomery

We have charged a Calgary man with attempted murder following an assault that occurred yesterday morning in the northwest community of Montgomery.

At approximately 11:10 a.m. on Saturday, March 22, 2025, we were called to the 4500 block of Montgomery Avenue N.W. for reports of an assault in progress. Several witnesses reported that a man was violently attacking another man, who appeared to be unconscious, on the street outside a residence.

Upon arrival, officers observed a man with a weapon assaulting another man who appeared to be unresponsive. The officers quickly de-escalated the situation and took the suspect into custody. The victim was transported to hospital, where he remains in life-threatening condition.

Investigators believe the two men were involved in a physical altercation inside a residence before the suspect dragged the now unconscious victim outside into the street and continued the assault. During the assault, the suspect went back into the home to obtain a weapon before carrying on the attack.

As a result of the investigation, Nasser KASIGWA, 31, is charged with one count each of attempted murder and aggravated assault.

He will next appear in court on Friday, March 28, 2025.

“This brazen and violent assault has left one man fighting for his life and has deeply impacted the lives of those in the community who witnessed it in broad daylight,” said Staff Sgt. Brad Moore of the Calgary Police Service District 1 General Investigations Unit. “We are committed to holding the offender accountable for such a senseless act of violence and providing support to those affected by the incident.”
