Man charged in two bank robberies

We have charged a man in connection with two bank robberies that left one bank employee injured.

At approximately 12:30 p.m., on Monday, April 19, 2021, a man entered the TD Bank at 3630 Brentwood Road N.W., disguised with dark sunglasses and a bandana.

Once inside, he approached a teller and verbally demanded money. He also presented a robbery note demanding money and claimed to be armed.

The man left with an undisclosed amount of money. There were no reported injuries to staff or customers.

Later that day at approximately 4:35 p.m., it is believed the same man entered the Bank of Montreal at 6550 Macleod Trail S.W. He again demanded money from a teller while claiming to be armed.

During this time another employee witnessed the situation between the teller and the man and attempted to diffuse it. The suspect jumped over the counter, began yelling for money and assaulted two staff members in the bank. One staff member required treatment for a minor injury.

A quick response by our officers resulted in the man being taken into custody.

Brien David BROOKS, 32, is charged with one count of robbery and one count of disguise while committing an indictable offense in relation to the TD Bank robbery.

BROOKS is also charged with three counts of robbery, one count of assault and one count of possession of weapon dangerous to the public peace in relation to the Bank of Montreal robbery.
