Man charged in sexual exploitation of children investigation

The Calgary Police Service has charged a man following a 10-month long investigation into the sexual exploitation of children.

In January 2020, we launched an investigation into a complaint that a 13-year-old girl was being given alcohol and drugs by an adult man in exchange for sex. During the course of the police investigation, another two teenaged girls were identified as victims of the same suspect.

Our investigators believe the suspect was using various social media platforms to meet children for a sexual purpose. He may have been contacting other potential victims through different social media apps, including Whisper, Yubo and Instagram. It is alleged that the suspect used the nickname ‘Ray’ and his username on Snapchat was “rashidmustafa1.”

On Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2020, we located and arrested the suspect in Calgary. Mohammad Rashid MUSTAFA, 23, of Calgary, has been charged with:

  • Two counts of sexual assault
  • Two counts of sexual interference
  • Two counts of invitation to sexual touching
  • Three counts of obtaining sexual services for consideration from a person under 18 years
  • Receiving material benefit from sexual service provided by a person under 18 years

He will next appear in court on Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2020.
