Man charged in serious assault investigation

Following a plea to the public for information related to a serious assault in November, a Calgary man has been arrested and charged.

At approximately 2:30 p.m., on Friday, Nov. 15, 2019, a man was riding a westbound CTrain when he was assaulted by another man on the train. The victim was struck in the face and a struggle ensued, after which the victim fell to the ground in medical distress.

The suspect then fled the train when it stopped at the 7 Street CTrain platform in the downtown. The victim was transported to hospital in life-threatening condition. He has since been released from hospital.

Police believe the victim and the suspect were not known to each other prior to the incident.

A media release issued on Nov. 15 garnered tips from the public, which assisted police in identifying and locating the suspect.

Rodney OWUSU-ANSAH, 29, was arrested on four outstanding warrants and has been charged with aggravated assault in relation to the Nov. 15 incident. He will next appear in court on Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2019.

The Calgary Police Service would like to thank the media and the public for their assistance in this investigation.
