Man charged in relation to abduction

We have charged a man who is believed to be responsible for the abduction of a woman that occurred earlier this week.

At approximately 2 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 5, 2023, we were called to the area of 2220 Centre Street N.E., for reports of a woman being forced into a vehicle by an unknown man.

Yesterday, Friday, Oct. 6, 2023, the suspect was located and arrested, and the suspect vehicle was located. The victim was also located yesterday and is safe. They are being connected with support services and resources.

As a result, a 37-year-old man has been charged with kidnapping, aggravated assault, driving while disqualified and three breaches of release orders.  Additional weapons-related charges are pending.

As the incident is believed to be domestic in nature, no further information will be released, including the name of the accused, in order to protect the identity of the victim.
