Man charged in jewelry store robbery

A man has been charged by the Calgary Police Service in relation to a jewelry store robbery that took place last week.

At approximately 11:20 a.m., on Thursday, Sept. 6, 2018, a man wearing a bandanna covering his face entered Anthony Jewellers in Marlborough Mall. The man used a blunt object to smash a number of display cases and removed a multiple pieces of jewelry before fleeing out of the store and into a waiting vehicle.

Witnesses obtained the licence plate and description of the vehicle which were shared with officers throughout the city. Just after 1 p.m., while conducting regular patrols in the area of 52 Street and 8 Avenue S.E., District 4 officers observed a vehicle matching the description with a different licence plate attached. A traffic stop was conducted and the lone occupant of the vehicle was arrested.

As a result of evidence left at the scene and other investigative steps, one man has been charged.

Bruce Alexander Ralph PARRY, 33, of Calgary, has been charged with one count each of robbery and wearing a disguise with intent to commit an offence.

The Calgary Police Service would like to thank the quick-thinking witnesses in this case whose reported observations greatly assisted in the swift apprehension of a suspect.
