Man charged in homicide case – Shane Eric James SMITH

The Calgary Police Service has charged one man in relation to the homicide of Shane Eric James SMITH.

Last week, investigators appealed to the public for assistance in locating the remains of SMITH, 20, of Chestermere, who was reported missing on Sunday, June 7, 2020. We are still seeking the public’s help in locating SMITH’s body.

Yesterday, we arrested one man who is facing charges in connection to the murder of SMITH. Ian Charles ABERCROMBIE, 24, of Calgary, has been charged with:

  • One count of second-degree murder
  • One count of indignity to a human body
  • One count of breaching a court order and breach of a firearm prohibition order

The Calgary Police Service would like to thank the media and the public for their assistance in this investigation, and continue to ask for assistance.

Investigators are looking to speak with anyone who drove over the Bow River bridge on Deerfoot Trail S.E. between midnight on Saturday, June 6, and 9 a.m. Sunday, June 7, and have dash camera footage.
