Man charged in fatal Eau Claire shooting

A suspect has been arrested in the fatal shooting of a man in Eau Claire on Friday.

At approximately 8:10 p.m., on Friday, June 5, 2020, we were called to Eau Claire Market, located at 200 Barclay Parade S.W., for reports of shots fired. Upon arrival, we located one deceased male in an underground parkade.

On Saturday, June 6, 2020, a suspect was arrested in Calgary and a residence in the Airdrie community of Hillcrest was subsequently searched on Sunday in connection with the investigation.

Homicide investigators believe this was a targeted attack, with connections to drug trafficking. As this continues to be an ongoing investigation, further details about what occurred during the events of Friday night will not be released at this time.

Abdullahi BARAKOBE, 26, has been charged with second-degree murder and kidnapping using a firearm. He will appear in court today, Monday, June 8, 2020.

An autopsy is scheduled for today to formally identify the victim.

We continue to search for a number of outstanding suspects and a vehicle that is believed to be connected to this investigation. The vehicle is believed to have been in the Eau Claire area at the time of the shooting and is described as a white Mercedes car, possibly a C400 class. The first suspect is described as a man in his 20s, with light-brown skin tone, black hair, short in stature, with a medium build and wearing a white hoodie. The second suspect is described as a black man, tall, with a slim build, wearing a hoodie.
