Man charged in cigarette thefts

A man has been arrested and charged following a request for public assistance to identify a suspect believed to be connected to a string of cigarette thefts from convenience stores.

From Thursday, June 14, 2018, through Thursday, July 12, 2018, nine cases of the thefts were reported to police. In one case, the man also threw slurpee at the clerk before taking the cigarettes.

The suspect was located by officers in southeast Calgary and arrested.

Daniel Owen ELLIS, 53, is charged with three counts of theft under $5,000. Additional charges are pending. He will next appear in court on Sept. 10, 2018.
