Man charged in child pornography and sexual extortion case

We have charged a man who is believed to be responsible for the luring and sexual extortion of a teen earlier this year.

Between May and June 2024, a 16-year-old girl began communicating with a man via direct message on Instagram. It is believed the man lured the girl into sharing nude photos of herself in exchange for money. The girl discovered the nude photos had been posted online without her knowledge or consent. When she confronted the man to remove the photos, he refused, unless she provided more nude photos or engaged in sexual activities with him.

The girl reported the incident to police who began investigating.

On Thursday, Aug. 8, 2024, police executed a search warrant at a residence located in the 2400 block of Pinewood Drive S.E. Various electronic devices were seized and one man was arrested.

As a result, Curtis Tyson CHALK, 29, of Calgary, is charged with one count each of extortion, child luring for the purpose of producing child pornography, making child pornography available, accessing child pornography and possessing child pornography.

CHALK remains in custody and is scheduled to next appear in court tomorrow, Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2024.

The girl has been connected with the necessary supports and resources.

The Calgary Police Service encourages anyone who believes they are a victim of sexual exploitation, assault or abuse to report it to police by calling the non-emergency number at 403-266-1234, or 911 if they are in immediate danger.
