Man charged in assault on senior

A man has been charged in relation to the assault of a senior in her own home.

At approximately 7:20 p.m., on Saturday, Dec. 23, 2017, a man knocked on the door of a residence in the 200 block of Whiteview Road N.E. The resident, a woman in her 70s, answered the door. She recognized the man as having previously knocked on her door to ask for donations for a personal crisis. Given their prior interaction, the victim let the man into the home.

It is alleged the man told the victim that his mother had died. When the senior told him she didn’t have any money, the man allegedly pushed her down a flight of stairs. He then allegedly stole her wallet before fleeing the scene.

The senior suffered serious injuries as a result of the attack.

On Thursday, Jan. 17, 2018, Alim MANJI, 27, of Calgary, was arrested and charged with robbery and breach of recognizance. Further charges are pending.

The CPS would like to thank the media and the public for their assistance in this investigation.
