Man charged, gun seized in stolen vehicle incident

A man is facing 18 charges after he was arrested earlier this month when police located a stolen vehicle in the city’s northeast.

On Thursday, May 7, 2026, while conducting patrols in the community of Martindale, police located an unoccupied Audi S4 in the 0 to 100 block of Martin Crossing Bay N.E. Officers determined the vehicle was reported stolen a few days earlier from Salmon Arm, B.C. Investigators believed the vehicle was stolen by man who was wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for parole violation with firearm prohibition orders.

With the help of HAWCS and our Canine Unit, the suspect was located and arrested the same day in the southwest community of Sienna Hills.

After conducting a search of the vehicle, police seized a loaded shotgun, and designer jewelry, clothing and handbags collectively valued at $16,528.

As a result, Samuel Jacob CHAPMAN, 40, is charged with eight counts of possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order and one count each of:

  • Possession of stolen property over $5,000
  • Possession of stolen property under $5,000
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Unsafe storage of a firearm
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm in a vehicle
  • Possession of break and enter instruments
  • Possession of methamphetamine
  • Resisting arrest
  • Driving while prohibited
  • Driving without insurance

CHAPMAN is scheduled to next appear in court on Tuesday, June 16, 2026.
