Man charged following fatal assault at Calgary Remand

The Calgary Police Service has charged a man in relation to a fatal assault that occurred earlier this month at the Calgary Remand Centre.

At approximately 9:30 a.m., on Friday, Sept. 9, 2016, EMS and the Calgary Fire Department were called to the Calgary Remand Centre, 12200 85 Street N.W., for reports of an inmate in medical distress. Upon arrival, the victim was located in life-threatening condition and was resuscitated by EMS and CFD personnel before being transported to hospital.

On Thursday, Sept. 22, 2016, the victim of the assault, Alvin Clifford Chiniquay, 40, was taken off life support.

Today, Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2016, police charged Marlon Rex LEDESMA, 32, with first-degree murder. He is next scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 6.
