Man charged following attempted carjackings

We have charged one man following two attempted carjackings that occurred in the northeast community of Martindale, leaving one victim with serious injuries.

At approximately 12:31 p.m. yesterday, Thursday, Oct. 8, 2026, police responded to reports of an assault and attempted carjacking in the 200 block of Martinvalley Crescent N.E.

It is believed that the suspect approached a man and demanded his vehicle. When the victim refused, the suspect assaulted him using a pair of bolt cutters.

During the assault, the victim sustained serious injuries and was transported to hospital, where he has since been upgraded to stable condition.

Shortly after, it is believed the suspect targeted a second victim in a nearby area and attempted to steal the victim’s vehicle before fleeing the scene.

The second victim sustained minor injuries that did not require medical attention.

A short time later, officers located and arrested the suspect.

Following the arrest, the suspect appeared to be experiencing a medical episode and was transported to hospital for treatment.

As a result of the investigation, Amine AYMAN ABDELLI, 21, has been charged with:

  • Two counts of robbery
  • One count of aggravated assault
  • Two counts of assault with a weapon
  • One count of breach with a release order
  • One count of disguise with intent
  • One count of possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace
  • One count of possession of methamphetamine
  • One count of operating a motor vehicle without insurance

ABDELLI is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, Oct. 15, 2026.
