Liberty Housing Organization breaks ground on Non-Market Housing Development in Parkdale

Liberty Housing Organization is proud to announce the groundbreaking of its latest non-market housing development ‘Village Block’ aimed at providing safe, stable and affordable living options for Calgarians in need.  

Liberty Housing Organization is a non-profit committed to creating socially, financially, and environmentally responsible homes. Since their inception in 2015, they have delivered nearly 500 affordable homes in the Calgary area, and their goal is to deliver 2,500 affordable homes within the next 5 years through their innovative Ownership and affordable Rental Programs.

We are deeply grateful to the City of Calgary for their collaboration, which has been instrumental in bringing this vision to life.”

This transformative project is part of City Council’s Non-Market Housing Land Disposition Policy to sell land at book value rather than at market value to non-profit organizations whose priority is to develop affordable housing. This will help non-profit housing providers spend less capital funds on the acquisition of land which frees them up to invest more dollars in the development of housing for Calgarians. 

Under this round of the Non-Market Land Sale, The City is also able to provide direct capital funding of up to $75,000/unit to Liberty Housing Organization, representing an additional $4.3M in funding to support the development of affordable homes for Calgarians. 

The City’s Housing Strategy contains 98 actions that addresses the housing crisis, to ensure every Calgarian has an affordable place to call home.
