Large Grassfire Near Edworthy Park

On the afternoon of April 5th, 2022 the Calgary Fire Department responded to multiple calls for a large wildland fire near the Bow River and Edworthy Park.  On arrival crews found large volumes of smoke near Bowdale Crescent and proceeded into the area with off road firefighting trucks.  The fire began at the west end of Bowdale Crescent and burned an area of approximately 5 hectares before moving into an escarpment and wooded area.  Crews battled the fire and held it from moving up the valley.

Smoke could be seen from all areas of the city, and the rail line in the area was suspended while the fire burned.  Fire crews shuttled water into the area and spent several hours extinguishing hot spots.  The cause of the fire is being investigated and there were no injuries or property damage.  If anyone has photos or video of the fire especially prior to CFD arrival, please email this information to PIOfire@calgary.ca
