Kidnapping investigation results in one man charged

An investigation into the kidnapping of a woman from outside her workplace in May has resulted in charges against one man, while the investigation into the involvement of other people continues.

Shortly after 6 p.m., on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, a woman was returning to her vehicle in a parking lot outside of her workplace in southeast Calgary, when she was approached by an unknown man and forced into a vehicle. The woman’s family was notified that she had been taken and police were called out of concern for the woman’s well-being.

Several investigative resources were activated from the Calgary Police Service to locate and safely recover the woman. Police learned the victim was taken to an Airbnb rental located at 6 Citadel Estates Heights N.W., where she was held for several days. Investigators are releasing a photo of the property and are asking anyone who has information about the movements that occurred around the home during the time of the offence to contact police. The investigation has confirmed the homeowners were not involved in this incident and they are cooperating with police.

Just before 4 a.m., on Thursday, May 4, 2023, the woman was released on a rural road east of Calgary, physically unharmed. Further details about the kidnapping or the investigative steps leading to her recovery will not be released publicly.

Targeted kidnappings are often associated to organized crime and this is believed to be one such incident. Investigators believe several individuals from the Calgary area conspired to commit this act of violence.

“Violent events and organized crime activity have no place in our city. This activity puts friends, families, neighbourhoods and innocent bystanders in harm's way. Our dedicated investigators will get to the bottom of these incidents and will hold people accountable,” says Staff Sergeant Roland Stewart, of the Organized Crime and Offender Management Section.

On Monday, Nov. 20, 2023, Raejean Charles Sydey HUDSON, 23, of Calgary, was charged with one count of kidnapping.

The investigation into this matter is still ongoing and we encourage anyone with information to contact the police non-emergency number at 403-266-1234. Tips can also be left anonymously through Crime Stoppers by:
