Investigation into deceased newborn found on Christmas Eve 2017 continues

Nearly one year after a baby was found deceased in a dumpster, investigators continue to search for the identity of the mother.

At approximately 11:30 p.m., on Sunday, Dec. 24, 2017, a resident of the community called police after finding the body of a newborn infant in a parking lot behind a grocery store, located in the community of Bowness.

Over the past year, 60 tips were received and all have been reviewed extensively. None of them have led to advancing the investigation.

“Since Christmas Eve last year, there are many people who have been personally impacted by this investigation. First responders, witnesses and investigators all have an emotional attachment to this baby and the tragic circumstances. We want to ensure the mother is safe and we want to give some semblance of closure to all those involved” says Staff Sergeant Martin Schiavetta of the CPS Homicide Unit.

Anyone who believes they have information on the identity of this woman or the events that led up to this incident is asked to contact the Homicide Tip Line at 403-428-8877. They may also call the Calgary Police Service at 403-266-1234 or Crime Stoppers anonymously through the following methods:
