Investigation into bear spray incident in Chinook Mall

Investigators are looking to speak with several victims who are believed to have been affected by a bear spray incident in Chinook Mall in late October, as well as releasing CCTV photos of the suspects in hopes of identifying them.

Around 4:40 p.m., on Friday, Oct. 29, 2021, an altercation between a number of youth occurred in the common area of Entrance 5 at Chinook Mall. During the altercation bear spray was deployed by one of the youth who then fled out into the parking lot towards Macleod Trail. As a result of the bear spray, several mall patrons who were not involved in the confrontation were affected and required assistance.

An investigation into the incident has revealed two suspects and we are now seeking help from the public to identify and locate them. Several CCTV photos of the suspects are available on The City of Calgary Newsroom.

The first suspect is described as approximately 5’10” tall, with a slim build, wearing black sports wear with a tan or grey shoulder bag with stripes, white shoes and a Burberry scarf on his head.

The second suspect is described as approximately 5’10” tall, with a slim build, wearing light-coloured pants, a red hoodie, and a cross-body bag with a black strap.
