Investigation concluded into death of man aboard aircraft

The Calgary Police Service has concluded its investigation into the sudden death of a man that went into medical distress on board an aircraft.

At approximately 3 p.m., on Tuesday, August 7, 2018, CPS members responded to an aircraft that had returned to the gate after a male passenger had an altercation with two Canada Border Service Agency (CBSA) officers prior to take off.

Officers found one man in medical distress who was removed from the aircraft and transported to hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has determined that the passenger died of natural causes.

The investigation found that the death was not caused by the actions of the CBSA officers, who were acting in the execution of their duties in a reasonable and appropriate manner.

As this is not a criminal matter, no further details will be released by the Calgary Police Service.

Information related to Canada Border Service Agency procedures should be directed to CBSA.
