Information sought in fatal motorcycle collision
We are investigating a multi-vehicle collision that occurred in southeast Calgary today, resulting in the death of a motorcyclist.
At about 11:50 a.m. today, Saturday, Aug. 17, 2024, a 50-year-old woman, driving a 2010 Acura MDX, was travelling northbound on Deerfoot Trail S.E., in the centre lane, approaching the Anderson Road S.E. exit, when she applied her brakes due to slowing traffic ahead of her.
At the same time, a woman in her late 50s, driving a 2002 Victory V92C motorcycle, was travelling behind the Acura in the same lane. The motorcyclist braked heavily when the vehicle in front of her applied the brakes, but she was unable to stop in time and struck the Acura on the rear driver’s side.
She was dismounted from the motorcycle and entered the lane closest to the median, where she was struck by another vehicle – a 2020 Kia Forte – driven by a woman in her 30s.
The motorcyclist sustained significant injuries and was declared deceased at the scene.
No other parties were injured in the collision.
Alcohol, drugs and speed are not considered to be factors in the collision. Our Traffic Unit continues to investigate.
