Inaugural Summer Safety Day at YouthLink Calgary Police Interpretive Centre

YouthLink Calgary Police Interpretive Centre is excited to announce the inaugural Summer Safety Day, a free event designed to educate families and youth on safety and preparedness for the upcoming summer season. This special day, in partnership with the Calgary Police Service Crime Prevention Unit and other community safety organizations, will provide invaluable tips and information to ensure a safe and enjoyable summer for all attendees.

Taking place on Saturday, May 25, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the YouthLink Calgary Police Interpretive Centre, families can look forward to a day filled with interactive activities, informative presentations, and special demonstrations. Highlights of the event include bike safety demonstrations every hour by the Calgary Police Mountain Bike Unit, traffic safety education, water safety tips, fire prevention information, pathway safety insights, and valuable crime prevention guidance.

"We are thrilled to welcome families to our first ever Summer Safety Day," shares Tara Robinson, Executive Director of YouthLink Calgary. “This event is an opportunity for families to learn important safety practices, and to take away tips from the experts to have a safe and enjoyable summer.”

Acting Calgary Police Chief Katie McLellan emphasizes the importance of safety education and community engagement. “Events like Summer Safety Day provide an essential platform for families to interact with safety-minded organizations, learn crucial safety tips, and to be prepared and informed.”

A news conference will kick off the event at 10:15 a.m. featuring the following speakers: Executive Director of YouthLink Calgary Police Interpretive Centre, Acting Chief Katie McLellan, and Crime Prevention Unit Sergeant Nick Wilsher. The news availability will be followed by information on the Bike Index program and a demonstration by the Calgary Police Mountain Bike Unit.

Numerous organizations including Calgary Police, Calgary Fire, EMS, Bylaw, Parks and Recreation will be present to provide safety education to attendees. Families can also explore police vehicles, fire trucks, and an ambulance, participate in cyber safety presentations, receive Bike Index stickers for safeguarding bicycles against theft, and meet special guests including the Victim Assistance Support Team trauma dogs.
