If you receive the gift of flight, be sure you know the rules

The holiday shopping season is in full swing and many will be receiving the gift of flight. But do you know the rules around flying a drone in the city?

The Calgary Police Service is once again reminding citizens about the safe use of drones.

“Public safety is our primary concern when it comes to UAVs or drones,” said Sergeant Colin Foster. “Operators may not be aware of the laws in relation to the safe use of these vehicles, which can lead to potentially dangerous, if not life-threatening, incidents.”

Improper operation of a UAV can be in violation of Canadian Aviation Regulations, the Criminal Code of Canada, and City of Calgary Bylaws, resulting in charges being laid.

To help raise awareness of the rules and regulations associated with flight, Calgary police will be hosting a UAV public information session:

Saturday, Nov. 19, 2016

1 – 3 p.m.

Calgary Police Service Headquarters, 5111 47 Street N.E.

Westwinds West Building Lobby

Please RSVP to uav@calgarypolice.ca
