Human remains discovered in Banff National Park

The Calgary Police Service Homicide Unit is working closely with the RCMP after human remains were discovered yesterday in Banff National Park.

Yesterday, Tuesday, May 9, 2023, CPS homicide investigators were surveying an area near a rest stop off the eastbound Trans-Canada Highway, east of Banff, after receiving information that human remains may be in the area. While examining the scene and preparing a plan to search the area, investigators came across the remains. A map detailing the location is available on The City of Calgary Newsroom.

Although the remains are believed to be related to a Calgary homicide investigation, an autopsy has been scheduled for tomorrow, Thursday, May 11, 2023, to confirm the identity.

No further information will be released until the completion of the autopsy.
