Housefire in Renfrew
On April 13th, 2025 at approximately 11:55 AM the Calgary Fire Department (CFD) responded to a 911 call for a possible housefire in the northeast community of Renfrew. On arrival at the 1100 block of Rupert Road NE crews were met by occupants of a single-story home with lower suites reporting fire in the lower level. Firefighters were met with smoke from multiple openings and forced entry to a lower suite. Crews found fire in the kitchen area of the suite and quickly brought it under control with hose lines. At the same time, firefighters searched the remainder of the occupancy for people and confirmed that all had evacuated safely except for 2 cats. Firefighters were able to locate both cats and they were removed from the home unharmed. The fire was contained to the lower suite, however damage from smoke was extensive throughout the entire home.
CFD worked with Calgary Police to control traffic in the area, and EMS was on standby. ATCO and ENMAX were both on scene assisting crews with utility control. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation and crews will be on scene for several hours assisting with investigation.
