House Fire in Marlborough
On May 4th, 2024, at approximately 11:20 PM, the Calgary Fire Department received a 911 call for a possible housefire in the southeast community of Marlborough. On arrival at the 4700 block of Memorial Drive crews found a single story, detached, single family dwelling fully engulfed in flames. Occupants met fire crews to confirm that all 8 residents and pets were safely out of the home and accounted for. Firefighters quickly deployed large volume hose streams from the outside to facilitate entry. Crews were able to extinguish the fire quickly in the home and search the interior for additional occupants. No other occupants were found.
The large fire was being fed by a heat damaged natural gas meter, which was kept under control by firefighters outside. The large fire also damaged overhead powerlines. Both ATCO gas and Enmax electric were on scene to secure the utilities. Damage from the fire necessitated excavating the gas line to the home to stop the flow of gas.
Damage from the fire was held to the house of origin and crews will be on scene through the night extinguishing hot spots and assisting the investigator. Traffic on Memorial drive is disrupted due to emergency vehicles. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
