Homicide victim identified

Following an autopsy, the shooting victim who was dropped off at a medical facility Monday night has been identified as Itgel BAATARSUREN, 22, of Calgary.

Police continue to search for witnesses who may have noticed the white Pontiac G5 in the area of the 900 block of 36 Street N.E., between the hours of 7 p.m. and 9 p.m., on Monday, Jan. 23, 2017. It is believed the shooting may have occurred in a parking lot in the area just before 9 p.m.

Suspicious Death Investigation

The Calgary Police Service Homicide Unit has been called in to investigate the death of a man who was dropped off at an urgent care clinic with critical injuries.

Just after 9 p.m., on Monday, Jan. 23, 2017, medical staff at the Sheldon Chumir Health Centre called police when they were alerted to a man being dropped off at their facility with a gunshot wound. After dropping the victim off, a man fled from the clinic in a white Pontiac G5.

The victim, a man in his 20s, was rushed to hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

A short time later, police located what is believed to be the same vehicle on 17 Avenue S.W., and conducted a traffic stop. One man was taken into custody for questioning. It is not yet known what, if any, involvement he may have had in the incident. The man was released earlier this morning.

An autopsy has been scheduled for today, Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2017.
