Homicide Update - KIMMEL

It’s been nearly one year since the disappearance of 30-year-old Fletcher KIMMEL, and Major Crimes investigators have now determined based on the totality of the evidence his death was the result of homicide and several people were likely involved.

Detectives are releasing new information and are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man who used KIMMEL’s bank card on Sunday, Oct. 9, 2016. KIMMEL’s last known whereabouts were on Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2016, when he was seen getting into a black Toyota Rav4 at a 7-Eleven store at 3510 39 Avenue N.E.

Photos of the man in question, as well as the RAV4 are being made available via The City of Calgary Newsroom.

Detectives have exhausted all investigative leads and are confident KIMMEL’s last known footprints of life were at the 7-Eleven as he entered the RAV4.

KIMMEL’s body was located on Sunday, Jan. 29, 2017, in a wooded area near the Jumpingpound Demonstration Forest. Homicide investigators believe several people were involved in KIMMEL’s disappearance and death.

KIMMEL’s mother, Sandra, is also pleading with the public to come forward with information about her son’s death. “I am now living every parent’s nightmare; I have outlived my child,” she says. “There isn’t a day that I don’t think about him and wonder where things went wrong.” A further statement will be made by Sandra Kimmel at a press conference later this morning.

The Service understands the family’s need for answers and these next steps are being taken in hopes of moving the investigation to the next level.
