Homespace open Hope Heights, 35 affordable housing units

Hope Heights, a four-storey apartment building located at 117 12 Avenue NW is opening on October 15th in the community of Crescent Heights just north of Downtown, Calgary. This project includes 35 one-bedroom rental units for young single mothers and their children, and seniors. Residents will have access to wrap-around support services on-site provided by Highbanks Society and McMan Youth, Family and Community Services of Calgary.

The collaborative program is designed to provide stable, affordable housing for vulnerable populations, particularly young adults and their children as well as seniors, with a focus on Indigenous communities. This proven intergenerational housing model proposed for Hope Heights, fosters a mentorship community where seniors mentor youth on Indigenous traditions and life skills while youth support seniors with companionship and daily living tasks. This mixed model aims to reduce social isolation, promote health, and enhance the wellbeing of both populations. The program will integrate cultural programming, mentorship opportunities, and lifeskills training, supported by case management staff on-site during the day.

This housing project received $7.3 million under the Cities Stream of the third round of the RHI3 from the federal government through CMHC, $872,975.00 from the City of Calgary, $2.1 million from the Government of Alberta Affordable Housing Partnership Program, and $1.3 million donation from Calgary builder Hopewell. The 20 months of construction began in March 2023 and was completed on time and on budget by October 2024.

Hope Heights is the final build of the former RESOLVE campaign launched in 2012, where Calgary homebuilders donated $1.4 million each towards affordable housing. Those builders were Albi Homes (now Albi Luxury by Brookfield), Brookfield Residential, Cedarglen Homes, Streetside Developments, Morrison Homes, Hopewell Residential, Homes by Avi, Calbridge Homes, Shane Homes, Cardel/Logel Homes and Jayman Master Built (now Jayman Built).
