Help transform parking stalls downtown in celebration of International Park(ing) Day

Applications due August 31

The City of Calgary is encouraging designers, artists, planners, businesses, organizations, groups and individuals to participate in International PARK(ing) Day on September 21 by temporarily transforming a metered parking space into a fun, community gathering spot. Applications for participation are due on August 31.

“We are encouraging Calgarians to participate in an around the globe initiative to promote re-thinking of public space. It always takes place the third Friday of September. International PARK(ing) Day transforms parking spaces into parks, playgrounds, BBQ parties, and gardens,” says Kate Zago, Planner, The City of Calgary. “We are looking for Calgarians to take typical parking spaces on Centre Street in the downtown and transform them into livable and creative spaces.”

Anyone can submit an application to participate in PARK(ing) Day by the deadline August 31, 2018. There is no charge to participate in the event.

What are the PARK(ing) stall design considerations?

  • Allotted space is 2.4 metres by 6 metres
  • Must be temporary
  • Installations should be sturdy and safe, while not interfering with traffic
  • Signage is limited to two posters, no larger than 11 by 17 inches, that serve the sole purpose of acknowledging the creators, funders and organizers of the PARK(ing) Day installation

Those interested in taking part in PARK(ing) Day can get more information and the application form at calgary.ca/parkingday.
