Head-on collision in city's northwest results in serious injuries

We are currently investigating a collision that occurred in the early morning hours, just north of downtown.

At approximately 2:30 a.m., on Sunday, April 17, 2022, a 2021 Honda HRV traveling north on 14 Street N.W., near the north end of the Mewata Bridge over Memorial Drive N.W., crossed into the southbound lanes and struck a 2012 Nissan Altima traveling south head-on. Both vehicles were seriously damaged.

The driver of the Nissan, a 23-year-old male, suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene by EMS.

The driver of the Honda, a 28-year-old female, suffered minor injuries and was transported to hospital for treatment. The front seat passenger of the Honda, a 36-year-old male, suffered serious, life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital for treatment.

Speed is not considered to be a factor in this collision, however alcohol is believed to be a factor.

The Calgary Police Service Traffic Section continues to investigate. Anyone who may have information or dashcam footage of this collision is asked to contact the police non-emergency number at 403-266-1234.
