Five people charged in drug trafficking investigation
We have charged five people following the seizure of more than $89,000 worth of drugs from a residence in southwest Calgary.
In September 2025, we initiated an investigation following reports of suspected drug trafficking activity at a residential complex in the 6700 block of Elbow Drive S.W. Initial checks revealed one of the suspects was wanted on multiple warrants related to previous court proceedings. The investigation also identified additional individuals connected to the suspected trafficking.
On Sunday, Nov. 16, 2025, one of the individuals was arrested and taken into custody on outstanding warrants. On Saturday, Nov. 22, 2025, we executed search warrants on two separate residences in the complex.
In total, we located and seized:
- 756 grams of cocaine with an estimated street value of $75,620
- 774.3 grams of methamphetamine with an estimated street value of about $5,200
- 12.2 grams of fentanyl with an estimated street value of about $1,025
- 702 millilitres of GHB with an estimated street value of $3,515
- 30 tabs of LSD with an estimated street value of $300
- 148 pills of benzodiazepine with an estimated street value of $740
- 139.5 pills of hydromorphone with an estimated street value of $2,790
- Four pills of oxycodone with an estimated street value of $80
- $3,615 in Canadian currency
- Scales
- Individual baggies
- Cellphones
- A conducted energy weapon
“Our officers’ patience and perseverance on this file has helped remove thousands of dollars of drugs from Calgary streets,” says Insp. Darry Midtdal of the Calgary Police Service. “Drug trafficking poses a serious risk to the safety of people in our community, and operations like this reinforce our commitment to keeping dangerous substances away from the public.”
In connection with the investigation, the following individuals have been charged:
Shane Gordon COWAN, 45, has been charged with:
- One count of possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking
- One count of possession of opioids for the purpose of trafficking
- One count of possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking
- Three counts of possession of other drugs for the purpose of trafficking
- One count of possession of the proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000
Lauren Frances HERZOG, 36, has been charged with:
- One count of possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking
- One count of possession of methamphetamines for the purpose of trafficking
- Four counts of possession of other drugs for the purpose of trafficking
- One count of possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000
- One count of unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon
- Two counts of failure to comply with a release order
Lucas PINHEIRO DA SILVA, 30, has been charged with:
- One count of possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking
- One count of possession of opioids for the purpose of trafficking
- One count of possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking
- Three counts of possession of other drugs for the purpose of trafficking
- One count of possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000
- One count of unauthorized possession of a prohibited device or ammunition
Robert MARKIEWICZ, 52, has been charged with:
- One count of possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking
- One count of possession of opioids for the purpose of trafficking
- One count of possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking
Chelsey Dawn SALM, 31, has been charged with:
- One count of possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking
- One count of possession of opioids for the purpose of trafficking
- One count of possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking
- One count of failure to comply with a release order
COWAN, PPINHEIRO DA SLIVA and SALM are scheduled to appear in court on Monday, Jan. 12, 2026.
HERZOG and MARKIEWICZ are scheduled to appear in court on Friday, Jan. 16, 2026.
