The Calgary Police Service is currently investigating a collision on northbound Deerfoot Trail which left two EMS paramedics and a CPS member injured by a combative patient at the scene.

Emergency crews responded to Deerfoot Trail between 17 Avenue S.E. and Memorial Drive, around 4 p.m. At least four cars were involved in the initial collision and when first responders arrived they were confronted by a combative man who had been involved in the crash.

Several members of EMS, the Calgary Fire Department and CPS were involved in attempting to restrain the patient. A conducted energy weapon was deployed by a CPS officer during the altercation, but it had limited impact. It is not known why the patient was combative. Two members of the public who were involved in the collision were taken to hospital with minor injuries.
