Fire Crews Rescue Two People From House Fire in Penbrooke Meadows

On October 31, 2024, at approximately 23:25 hrs the Calgary Fire Department (CFD) received a 911 call for a fire within a residential townhouse complex in the community of Penbrooke Meadows SE.  Upon arrival in the 200 block of Pensville Close SE, the first arriving fire crew found heavy smoke pushing out from a second storey window on the front of the townhouse.  An occupant had evacuated out of the window and was stranded on the roof.  Three other occupants had self-evacuated and one additional occupant was reported to be trapped in the basement.

Fire crews immediately set up a ladder and rescued the occupant from the roof, while simultaneously made entry and assisted the occupant from the basement.  Crews did an aggressive fire attack up through the structure to the second floor and brought the fire under control, while additional crews searched the entire structure for any remaining occupants.

The Calgary Police Service attended to control traffic in the area, while Alberta Health Services EMS was on scene to ensure occupant and firefighter safety.  EMS assessed three of the occupants for smoke inhalation and transported one of the occupants to hospital.  Crews from ATCO and Enmax were utilized to isolate the gas and electrical utilities.
