At approximately 11:20 am on Tuesday February 4th, Calgary 9-1-1 began receiving multiple calls of a residential structure fire in a 4 plex in the 0-100 block of Doverdale Mews SE.  Initial reports from callers stated residents were trapped.  The district fire engine was fueling their truck nearby and arrived on scene within one minute of the initial call.

On arrival crews were met by a large volume of fire and smoke.  Fire crews immediately began an aggressive exterior attack, transitioning to interior firefighting and a thorough search of both the source residence and three other attached residences.  There is substantial damage in the source suite, which will not be able to be reoccupied.

Firefighters found seven (7) residents who had self-evacuated.  Four of these residents, were found to be patients suffering from smoke inhalation.  The patients were transported to local hospitals for further care by AHS. A total of 13 fire apparatus attended the scene.

Fire investigators currently remain on scene working to determine to origin and cause of the fire. Additional fire crews will remain on scene to extinguish any hot spots and search for extension of the fire over the next several hours.  The Calgary Fire Department would like to remind all citizens to insure you have working smoke alarms that are tested regularly.
