Fatality House Fire in Forest Lawn

At approximately 9:10 PM on April 5th, 2022 the Calgary Fire Department responded to the 2600 block of 39th Street in the southeast community of Forest Lawn for a house on fire.  On arrival, fire crews found a single story fourplex with smoke pushing from a main floor window and occupants outside.  Firefighters quickly made entry to the upper floor of the occupancy and were met with heavy smoke and heat.  The entry team quickly located the fire in a back bedroom and brought the fire under control.  Inside the room of origin, firefighters found a single unresponsive occupant and removed the occupant to the front yard area. Once outside, the Calgary Fire Department crews and CFD Fire Response Paramedic started patient care on the female fire victim.

Fire Crews quickly searched the remainder of the unit and determined the dwelling all clear.  AHS paramedics arrived on scene and worked with fire personnel to attempt resuscitation of the occupant.  While the treatment occurred early, the resuscitation was unsuccessful and the occupant was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The fire was kept to the room of origin with heavy heat and smoke damage to the area, while damage in other units was minimal.  Approximately 10 occupants were displaced by the fire and are working with Red Cross for temporary shelter.  The Calgary Police arson unit and fire investigators will remain on scene through the night investigating the cause of the fire.
